Today's verse is Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Considering the testimony of those that have gone before, and the dire judgments yet to transpire, let us so examine ourselves. Here we are admonished to lay aside every weight (those things good or bad that hold us back) and the sin which doth so easily beset us. How? First listen not to the counsel of the present world and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes. Have you not heard, “Follow your heart!” That wicked thing that is desperately wicked, and deceitful above all. Instead, set yourself to follow after the example of Jesus Christ, who worked not his own works, but submitted himself wholly to the direction of the Father, and worked by the power of Holy Ghost, and so shall we also be able to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Amen.
