Uriah: One That Was Not Delivered

Today's verse is 2 Samuel 11:24
And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king’s servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

Yesterday, I had mentioned that there are some that God had not delivered. Here we such a one. Uriah the Hittite has been counted as one of David’s 30 mighty men, yet when David needed to cover for his sin, God did not protect Uriah from David as he had protected David from Saul. Yet, if you search out this whole story, learning what God did to David for this sin, and how God brought us Jesus through the sons of Bathsheba, you may be as astounded, even as I was, both as the wrath that God brought upon David, and the grace and mercy found in Bathsheba being found in the line of our Saviour Jesus Christ, through both her son Nathan, and through Solomon who is counted to date as Israel’s greatest King. And Yet Through all of this God is Glorified. Amen.

What To Do When You Have No Where To Turn

Today's verse is 2 Samuel 10:12
Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.

Have you found yourself with no way to go, no path to escape, hemmed in on every side; then take your example from these two men, Joab and Abishai, and the men they commanded. They did not quit, but rather quitted themselves as men and established their cause, then placed their-selves in to the hand of God, to whatever he pleased. Therefore, whatever strait you may find yourself in, be of good courage, do not give up doing that which is right, and let God determine the outcome. Many he has delivered, some he has not, but in all he has been Glorified. Amen.

God Has Something To Say About That.

Today's verse is 2 Samuel 7:4
And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,

David had a desire, he had examined his blessings, and he wanted to return unto God, what God had done for him; the Prophet agreeing. Yet, God had something to say. What follows, every time I have read it, comes across to me as a rebuke (How dare you think such thoughts) Yet, for this desire of David, God gives him a reward by which David is astounded. All of that to say, we must submit ourselves to God’s Word, for it is God’s Word that we must obey, and it is by God’s Word that we shall know how to please him. Amen.

When We Obey The Counsel Of The Lord

Today's verse is 1 Chronicles 14:17
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.

Just preceding this statement, we find David seeking the Counsel of God regarding current events, and in receiving the Counsel of God he obeyed. And so, once the world around him saw what God had done for David, we have this testimony on how the world responded to God’s hand upon David. Therefore, after receiving the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem he begins to sing: Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, / Make known his deeds among the people. . . As we see God work among us according to our obedience to his Word, can we do any less? Amen.

Knowing That God Is In Charge

Today's verse is Acts 23:6
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Though it is possible that the example that Paul gives us here is wrong (purposely exploiting a division of his hearers) still God uses this incident to bring Paul to Rome to testify before Kings, even as God had revealed to Paul that he was to do. Therefore, let us continually commit our way unto the Lord, for even as he has promised, he shall bring his purposes to pass. Amen.

When, Or How, Will You Do The Will Of God?

Today's verse is 2 Samuel 3:9
So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;

What I want to focus on here is that Abner had already known what the will of the Lord God was, yet he did not do right for right’s sake, but because he was accused of a transgression (whether he was guilty or not, appears not to matter.) Thus did Abner finally repent and turned the rest of Israel back to David the rightful King, however, not without cost. For though David passively granted Abner a pardon, Joab, seeking vengeance for his brother, possibly under the colour of being the revenger of blood, took Abner’s life, which was a consequence of his wrongful seeking to keep the kingdom in his family. Therefore, let us consider, what will it take for God to get you to do that which you know he wants you to do? Will you do it because you know it to be God’s Will? Or will you delay until God forces your hand? Selah [Choose you this day whom ye shall serve.] Amen.

Declare The Glory Of God

Today's verse is Psalm 96:3
Declare his glory among the heathen,
      His wonders among all people.

In the 106th Psalm we have an account of the waywardness of Israel, yet of God we have this testimony there: And he remembered for them his covenant, /And repented according to the multitude of his mercies. We see here the longsuffering of the Lord our God, not only for Israel’s sake, but for the gentiles, that is the heathen, of whom I am one. Therefore, let us that have received Jesus Christ, declare to all the Wonders we have seen, that all may know that The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God. Amen.

Is God's Word Your Foundation?

Today's verse is Acts 20:32
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Just a little while ago, I had listened to a wolf say that there was no evidence in God’s Word for the doctrine Sola Scriptura, yet even as I pointed out just a couple of posts ago, we have another injunction in God’s Word to cling, yea even obey this Word that God has given us that we might be built up, and know what it is that our God has prepared for us. Therefore, as we walk with our God in this present world, let us not cease to always take everything we hear and see, and compare it to God’s Sure and Perfect Word, to see whether it is so, even as those in Berea did. Amen.

A Time To Speak, But Also A Time To Refrain.

Today's verse is Acts 19:30
And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

I had also read today, that as King Saul (of whom Paul was also named) sought to gain Counsel of God, he received none. And here, Paul’s companions refused to allow Paul to speak to this unruly crowd. From these things, I must conclude that there is a time to speak, and there is a time to remain silent. Of this we must allow the Spirit of God guide us, for how shall the sinner repent if they know not the promise of the Gospel. But God is also merciful to those that would not hear, for if Paul had spoken, they would have been also responsible for what they rejected that day twice over. Selah [Compel, but don’t force.] Amen.

A Sure Foundation

Today's verse is Acts 18:28
For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

Do you know what your foundation is? Upon what do your rest your Hope of Salvation, and the way you aught to go? Throughout God’s Word, we see statements like what we see above, where those that knowing of the scriptures, are shown Christ in them, or those that don’t are brought to the scriptures being first introduced to the Saviour. By God’s Word we are taught of Salvation through Jesus Christ, and the way we ought to seek to please him. Will you set aside all other, and seek to know the True God by his Word which he has given us? Knowing that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. Amen.

Will You Receive The Testimony God Has Given You?

Today's verse is Acts 17:2
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

In this chapter we find Paul preaching to the Jews from the scriptures shewing them how through Jesus Christ God has fulfilled his promise of a Saviour. However, at the end of this same chapter, has he preaches to those that know not God, he uses the testimony that God has left to all people, the witness we have by the natural things and again bringing them to the knowledge of God’s coming Judgment, and the promise of Christ though his resurrection, of which we know by the testimony God has given us by his Word. Will you surrender to him today? Amen.

Will You Allow What God has Already Done, Give You Hope?

Today's verse is Psalm 54:7
For he hath delivered me out of all trouble:
And mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

This is an amazing statement by David, for he was still hiding from Saul, yet having seen God’s hand upon him, even with his first foray against enemies of Israel, David himself shows us what Paul later points out: And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience, And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. So, therefore, have you seen God work before in your life (even if it had been just once, God changes not,) therefore, even as David, not yet set upon the throne, still hiding from Saul, David declares that God has delivered him out of all trouble, will you also keep your hope upon the one that has Saved you? Amen.

Unintended Consequences?

Today's verse is Psalm 52:9
I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it:
And I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Because thou hast done it. What is it that was done? This Psalm was written in response to what Sual had done to the seed of Eli, the disobedient High Priest. David even recognized his own quilt in this evil act. Yet, we have been told that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. The world sees, and the world knows that all of our actions have consequences, both by our intent, but also going beyond to those things that we did not intend, of which we could be held accountable. But here, it appears that David had learned, and so passes to us, that with God there is no unintended consequences, but that he has done as he has pleased according even to his Word, and we that are in Jesus Christ are spared from the Judgment of these things. Amen.

Is Your Hope In God According To His Word?

Today's verse is Psalm 56:4
In God I will praise his word,
In God I have put my trust; I will not fear
What flesh can do unto me.

David was running from the wrath of Saul, and he fell into the hands of the enemies of Israel: Yet for all of this David kept his hope in the Word of God. He elected to trust in his God, whatever circumstance might bring, and that he would fear God, rather than the men about him that sought him harm. If God allows you to suffer as Job suffered; Will you trust him? Consider also Joseph, and the trials he faced; Will you trust God likewise? Have you seen the troubles of Jeremiah? In such circumstance, will you also place your Trust in God and his Word? Know that God will keep his promises, and your Labors, in his Name, shall never be in Vain. Amen.

Will You Take Heed Of All Of God's Word?

Today's verse is Acts 13:49
And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

I have encountered one, who, presumably, was a minister of the gospel, saying, what should we care for such things as the end times, the rapture, even the doctrine of Sola Scriptura. Yet, when preaching the gospel, we see that Paul preached the word of the Lord. From this, I can only surmise, that Paul, who was separated unto the gospel, preached the whole counsel of the Word, even as we have recorded in his many letters to the churches. Let us therefore, cleave (cling) to God’s Word, and search in it the things we should adhere to, that we might be found pleasing in his Sight when we shall find ourselves standing before him. Amen.

Don't Accept The Wrong Premise!

Today's verse is 1 Samuel 17:36
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

Go and look, who did Goliath defy? Goliath mentions Saul, and he belittles the armies of Israel, and he boasts to David of his own gods, but he never once mentions the God of Israel. I dare say God never even enters his mind, until David declares him. We must not accept the premise of those that know not God, for they have no concept of what is true, for even their foundation is a lie, but we must always bring before them the Most High God, for as we have learned of Jesus Christ: That he is the Truth. He is the Way. And it is only by him that we have life. So, go out today and tomorrow until the Lord comes as he promised and let them know of Jesus Christ, by Word and Deed, that no one may say, I did not know, when they have to give the Righteous Judge an answer for their works. Amen.

Do You Have The Right Fear?

Today's verse is 1 Samuel 15:24
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Every day, we must consider this question: Who do I Fear? King Saul, making a show of fearing God, and thinking he obeyed his Word, rather feared the people, and allowed them to guide him as to what is right or what is wrong. And the amazing thing is, He did all of this in Gilgal, the place of the Word, the law, the place of blessings and cursings. Saul thinking he was choosing the blessing, chose rather the curse, because of the fear of the people. Jesus had said of his own: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me[.] Do you know whose voice you follow? Selah [Let this sink in.] Amen.

How To Find The Living God.

Today's verse is Acts 10:31
And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

Here we see the fulfillment of a truth that is later revealed by God, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Now to take note, when God spoke to Cornelius, what did he tell him to do? Did he send an angel to show him a new way? NO! The angel told him to find Peter, one of his Apostles, of whom Peter himself declared from God; That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour[.] If you want to know God, ye must come to him, and find him in His Word, the scriptures he has given to us, that we might know him, his work, and his ways. Will you come today, heeding His Word, unto life eternal? Amen.

A False Return To The Word.

Today's verse is 1 Samuel 11:14
Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

Gilgal, the place of the Blessing and Cursing, the place where the Law of God was recorded for all to read. If King Saul had truly followed after the symbol he had chosen all would be well, and as God had told him, the kingdom would have stayed in his family. But instead of building his foundation on the Rock of the Word, he built it upon the sand of his own understanding, where even that which he thought was good, was the very disobedience by which he was condemned. Let us therefore, learn of his example, and turn to God’s Word, and hearken to them, and do according to their instruction, and so shall we be blessed indeed. Amen.

Does God Have To Force Us To Do His Will?

Today's verse is Acts 8:4
Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Our God has many ways to get us to do that which he commanded us. As the multitude came to Jerusalem, and learned of the Mighty Works of God concerning Salvation, instead of returning home they stayed to enjoy the fellowship of the brethren (Truly, what a wonderful thing that is.) But God (even Christ) had given commandment that they were to be witnesses unto [him] both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Up to this point, Jerusalem, Judaea, and Samaria only have heard the Word, but now, God is forcing them to return home, and in returning, His message Spreads. Let us examine ourselves, are we obeying our Lord’s command, or are we waiting for him to force us. Selah [Let us be Thoughtful in our actions.] Amen.
