Today's verse is Psalm 44;20-22
If we have forgotten the name of our God,
Or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
Shall not God search this out?
For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long;
We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
In this Psalm, the Psalmist remembers the works God had done in the Past, then he looks upon his own day, and wonders why God is not helping now, thinking that they have not forgotten Him, and have been faithful to him. Consider the days of Jeremiah and King Josiah. According to 2 Chronicles, King Josiah lead what appears to be a great revival, the greatest Israel has ever had. Yet what God tells Jeremiah, Judah hath not turned unto me with a whole heart, but feignedly, that is a false repentance, and again, And though they say, The Lord liveth, surely they swear falsely. And over and over again, Jeremiah speaks of Pastors that scatter the flock, and the people listen to false prophets. Is this what was happening in the Psalmist’s Day? Is this what is happening in ours? Let us so examine ourselves, knowing the deceitfulness of our hearts, and see if we, personally, are doing something similar. Are we confessing falsely? Is our repentance feigned? If so, let us start with ourselves, and turn to the God who loves us with a whole heart, and make a true confession. Then seek out God’s true Word, trying the Prophets, by his Word, knowing that as God is faithful, his Word can be found even in this generation. Amen.
To God be the Glory
