Who Will Be Your Guide?

Today's Verse is 2 Chronicles 18:6
But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?

Some interesting things here to note. First, a King that knows God, knows when those that claim to be of the Lord (after the manner of Jeroboam) were not. Yet these same were persuaded that the Lord spoke to them. Even King Adam knew the difference between the two sects, and when the Lord’s Prophet spoke not directly from God. But still, having heard from God that he would die from this battle, still he rejected God and His message, and as God had said, so it came to pass. Therefore, let us seek to know God and His Message by knowing Him through His Word, for by knowing it, we shall also know when it is not Him, but another. Even as John warned us to try the spirits lest we be blinded by our own desires, even as Ahab was. Amen.

Knowing God, But Not Obeying.

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 20:13
And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

There is a cry about from those that know not God of why He does not show Himself. Here in this passage, we have an example of a man that God showed Himself to, and what does he do afterward? He demands that another man give up the inheritance which God had given him. (Notice how Ahab, appeared to be willing to give up his wives and children for the sake of keeping peace.) And thus was Ahab judged and sentence passed. I do believe this is part of the reason God hides himself from those that do not wish to hear the truth, because if He is known, the punishment must also be greater. Do you Know the Lord, do you labour to enter into His Rest, can others see your Love for him by your actions? As James has told us, Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Ahab knew who God was, and yet he still disobeyed, will you do the same, or will you purpose in your heart to Follow Him that is Faithfull? Amen.

Just A Regular Man.

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 17:1
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

Not much is know of Elijah before this, but through James, God tells us that he was a man of similar passions as you or I, and before he appears before Ahab he had prayed for the rain to stop, but did not approach Ahab till it had not rained for six months, and in this first narrative, after doing some great things he stubbles displaying some lack of faith, and before his ministry has really begun, he already has his successor named by God. Throughout all of this we find that God is faithful and as God had worked through Elijah, He also desires to work through you. Will you submit to Him and find out what God can do through one totally surrendered to Him. Dwight L. Moody had taken up that challenge and still on his death bed after doing many Great things for God, still said, “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him.” Will you see what God can do through you? Amen.

Following The Example Of Those Destroyed.

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 15:29
And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite:

Herein is a danger we must guard against. God used Baasha to Judge the wickedness of Jeroboam, yet as we read just a few verses later, he follows and commits the sin for which he was used to destroy his predecessor. This is why we must seek out and learn the ways of God, which we can find only by His Word, of which the Psalmist, even David proclaimed, The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: /The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. /The Statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: /The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. /The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: /The judgment of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. And having said that, this must be emphasized, More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: /Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Even as Paul prayed for the Colossians and desired that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. For how can we walk worthy of the lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work if we know not what his will is? The kings of Israel demonstrate this even after warning after warning, having rejected the counsel of God’s Word. Amen.

A Light Left For Better Times Coming

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 15:4
Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:

Throughout the History of the southern Kingdom of Judah, much was done for the sake of David, starting with his grandson and his son Abijah, and though Rehoboam appeared to repent, Abijah walked after his father’s sins (take care of the example you set for your children.) Yet Abijah, himself, gained the victory over the Northern Kingdom, because he gave God the Glory. And so, Asa saw that light and responded to it. And as God has done then, so also He is doing now, giving light for those that are willing to see it, that until the time of Wrath which is coming, the Righteous (those that Trust in Christ) may have peace from time to time until all is fulfilled at Christ’s Return. Amen.

Not Without Purpose.

Today's Verse is 2 Chronicles 11:8
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

The Apostle Paul has admonished us to be content in whatsoever state we may find ourselves. And so, it is here. Rehoboam for his rebellion against God found himself a servant to the Pharoah Shishak, and though Rehoboam had repented, that he might learn the error of his transgression, God left him as he was, to learn better to be God’s Servant. Therefore, let us also so examine ourselves, and see what it is that God wishes us to learn from the state we currently find ourselves. As we do this, being found faithful, has He not promised that His Faithful Servants shall be, in due course, rewarded according to their faithfulness? Amen.

Solomon's Grievous Reign?

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 12:4
Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

If Solomon ruled with wisdom, and happy were his servants, and he brought wealth, prosperity even, to the Kingdom, why did the people count their service to him grievous? Looking at the counsel of the old men, they reminded Rehoboam, that even as the people served him, he was to serve them. It would seem apparent, that as Solomon forgot God as he sought to please his wives, that he sought also to please himself and use his power to obtain his own ends (contrary to God’s commands) and left off the balance of Judgment, Justice, and Mercy. Therefore, let us remember to find out what this meaneth: I will have mercy, and not sacrifice for as Christ has said, understanding this we will not condemn the guiltless. Selah [Consider these things.] Amen.

Do You Know Their Names?

Today's Verse is Proverbs 30:4
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?
Who hath gathered the wind in his fists?
Who hath bound the waters in a garment?
Who hath established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

Here we have an invitation to seek out the One that made Heaven and Earth and all that in them are. And in the question, we have the Ministry of the Son, who descended from heaven, who even as He spake here on earth, testified that as He spoke, He was also in heaven. And even as we see His creation, He shewed us that He controls the wind, and can still the seas. We even have Peter’s testimony that even as our Salvation is based upon a God that cannot lie, Nor brake a promise, we can see it in evidence of our Knowledge of God and of His Son. So to repeat the final question, What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell? For how shall we Kiss the Son if we know not who He is? Amen.

The Message Goes Out.

Today's Verse is 2 Chronicles 9:23
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.

As the fame of Solomon spread throughout the world, so did the God of Israel, for to separate the Wisdom of Solomon from God that created Heaven and Earth is not possible (even as Solomon later attempted to do.) The Kings of the earth sought out Solomon for answers and received them (for which they paid) then brought back their answers and by one means or another, so the report of God spread to all the Lands which traded with Israel. The spread of God’s message was then passive, but now, even today, we have been commissioned to Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, and again Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. With this promise: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. So, you that have received forgiveness through Jesus Christ, will you go and tell your Neighbour of what He has done for you? Amen.

Thinking Upon Death, Or The Judgment!

Today's Verse is Ecclesiastes 7:2
It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

Some forty years ago I read part of the biographies of a couple of men, one the mentor of the other, and they both meditated upon death, and I thought it strange. However, both men were men of God, and thus, men of God’s Word, and it would appear they had laid this verse to heart, even as it was reinforced at the end of the book in the context of this: Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. And thus, they meditated upon death, that is, the day when they would have to stand before God and give an account of all they had thought, said, or done. And to my knowledge, they were ready for that day, having met the Advocate, and lived their lives for Him. What of you, are you ready? Do you have one that will speak for you, or will you find yourself as Job proclaiming: Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? /I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. . . Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent /In dust and ashes. And even as Job was found among the Righteous, where should those that know not God appear? Selah [What woud be your answer?] Amen.

A Proper Perspective

Today's Verse is Ecclesiastes 3:12
I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

Solomon had researched all and found that “under the sun” all is vanity. There is nothing on this earth that of itself has any real value. Even great riches are only good for being looked at (have you ever heard, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”) Nevertheless, there is one thing that does have value, both now and in the world to come: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For whether we have much, or all has been taken away, we that have surrendered to His care know that He has our backs (For ye shall not go out with haste, /Nor go by flight: /For the Lord will go before you; And the God of Israel will be your rereward [rear guard].) Therefore, whether you have great abundance, or appear to be suffering need, Will you Trust in the Lord God, even to calling Him YOUR Lord, placing your HOPE in Him, that whatever circumstance you find yourself in, you can rejoice? Amen.

Wise As Serpents, Harmless As Doves Part 2

Today's Verse is Proverbs 29:9
If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man,
Whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

As one that posts on Social Media, this I can attest. This verse is an extension of that I shared yesterday. For we that have chosen to Follow Jesus Christ and seek to obey his command to Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. . . will quickly learn that there are those who have no desire to learn of the God that Loves them, and once we have determined this, we need not to engage with them any further as far as their soul is concerned. Not that God is unable to reach them still, but that is His domain and not ours. Selah [If you engage, know why you are engaging.] Amen.

Wise As Serpents, Harmless As Doves

Today's Verse is Proverbs 26:4
Answer not a fool according to his folly,
Lest thou also be like unto him.

Have you also heard, neither cast ye your pearls before swine? But what of the command to preach the gospel to every creature? Such can be understood by the next verse in this context: Answer a fool according to his folly, /Lest he be wise in his own conceit. We are not to speak to convince such of their error, but to show and warn others, that they may avoid falling into the same pit. It is not our job to remove the scales from our neighbours eyes, for God will do that if they should so desire. Our job is to declare the truth to all that have ears to hear, that they with us might learn and receive life eternal through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Judgment Set, But Longsuffering Prevails

Today's Verse is 1 Kings 9:7
Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

As God had said, so was it done, but we also see the longsuffering of God, for while Solomon had himself set the outcome by his disobedience, still God gave space for Israel and Judah to prove who they were, but even then, when God chastened His people, his hand was stretched out still, and while many could not find him, there were always a few who were spared. And so can we see today, even as many tout their morality without God (not knowing that the things they think are moral are worthy of death) we can learn that God can be Feared because He forgives, for even now, His hand is stretched out still as we are closer then ever for His Wrath to be poured out upon the earth. Will you place your Hope in Him? Amen.

A Reason (of many) To Praise God

Today's Verse is Psalm 147:11
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
In those that hope in his mercy.

Here is a glimpse of a mystery declared by Paul, . . . and what the riches of the glory of his [God’s] inheritance in the saints[.] Many ask and are confounded about the delay in God’s Judgment, saying that it is impossible for God to be good and all powerful, for an all-powerful and Good God would have already dwelt with the wicked. But they ignore that part of being Good is this word called “longsuffering” and in this delay, space is given to those that would Repent to do so. All because of what we have seen in these two verses, which as I said are but a glimpse of the riches God sees in us. Therefore, as the context of Today’s Verse is found Praise ye the Lord: /For it is good to sing praises unto our God; /For it is pleasant, and praise is comely. Amen.
