Seeing God, And Rejecting Him Still

Today's verse is 1 Samuel 5:7
And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

The Ark of the Covenant, having been captured by the Philistines, a symbol of God’s presence, was not a pleasant experience for those Philistines which possessed it. Having seen how it dealt with their Idol, having experienced the plagues of emerods and mice, Acknowledging God, they clung not to him, but still to Dagon their god, and rejected still, the most Holy One, Maker of Heaven and Earth. As Sons of Adam, such is our nature as well. If you look at Israel, after the Ark had been returned to them, they did not much better. So what can we gain from this: We can seek temporary relief by removing God from us. But from other places, we have this promise: We can truly give God the Glory, Trusting him in all things, and by his strength seek to follow his ways revealed to us in his Word. So taste and see, Take God at his Word, and see what happens when you choose to Trust him, and make him your Hope, and see if he will bless you as he has others that have done the same. Amen.

To God be the Glory
