Today's verse is Psalm 119:51-53
The proud have had me greatly in derision:
Yet have I not declined from thy law.
I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD;
And have comforted myself.
Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked
That forsake thy law.
Later in this same Psalm, we are told that nothing shall offend us if we love the law of God, yet I have often wondered of how to respond to the breaking of God’s law? I have now seen two such responses. Here the Psalmist is Horrified, in the other place he is grieved (the better of the two reactions.) But what do we do when we are filled with such horror? Look to the verse above, and see how this Psalmist is comforted. He considers how God has judged before, what he has done about those that are wicked. While God has continually been longsuffering, and merciful, not a single one that has set himself before God has ever escaped, and the time of horror has always been limited. So do the enemies of your God hold you in derision? Do you have cause to fear their current power? Take comfort in the Lord your God, and sing of his mercy and grace, even of his statutes, knowing that he will always prevail, and whatever he may allow you to suffer, the reward of His Glory shall be greater. Amen.
To God be the Glory
