A Firm Foundation

Today's verse is Luke 6:47-49
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great

When we refuse to even read God’s Word, why do we wonder why everything goes awry? We have here not a promise, but a simple statement of fact, that if we do as our Savior says, we shall have a firm foundation, able to withstand anything which the world, or the devil should bring against us, but if we do not even hear his words, or even worse, hear them then disregard them, then the slightest whiff  of trouble shall send us reeling. Here then is what we should purpose to do: Read God’s Word. Obey those things we understand. Study those things we do not, obeying them as we understand them, and in doing these, our God will enable us to endure and shine brightly that all might know that he is God. Amen.
