Today's Verse is Job 1:1
THERE was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
And so, we have the frame set. We have a man from all outward appearances is and upright and moral man, yet as we have been told elsewhere, God knows his heart, even more than he does himself, and just as you and I his heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked[.] And it is the purpose of this book, not only to shew us Job, but to be also a reflection on all of us. For even as Job was both humbled and then exalted in the end, so can we expect our God to do with us as well. Have you not heard, do you not know that he is like a refiner’s fire, and like a fullers' soap? And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: /And he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, /That they may offer unto the Lord and offering in righteousness. And as he had done with Job and the Levite, so will he do with all that he calls his Children even as we have been told: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and if we endure chastening, then we know as Job we also will be exalted. Amen.
