Dealing With Bitterness.

Today's Verse is Job 9:18
He will not suffer me to take my breath,
      But filleth me with bitterness.

I don’t at this time know if this is Job’s first error, but without a doubt to ascribe to God any bitterness we might be having is sure folly. It is amazing that Job in this passage is speaking of the very thing that he is later rebuked for, claiming rightly that we have no authority to find fault with God, just as Job is here claiming that it is to God we must answer, and he does not need to answer us. And yet, Job blames God for his bitterness! Have we not later been commanded to [l]et all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice[.] If so, then bitterness is our responsibility, and a sin which must be confessed. I have found in my life that bitterness was present because I blamed God, and when he opened my eyes to my own failings and weaknesses all cause of bitterness fled away. Therefore, let us follow after Solomon’s counsel and Trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and lean not unto our own understanding, /In all our ways acknowledge him, /And he shall direct our paths. Amen.
