Often, sometimes, even deceiving ourselves of the opposite, when we hear the Word of God, most might pay it some sort of lip service, but in the end, reject God’s council. This is a product of our human nature received from Adam’s sin, and is only overcome by the regenerating gift God has provided though his Son, Jesus Christ. In reading beyond, this verse, we see that Zedekiah did not hearken to Jeremiah’s council, but continued in disobedience to God’s express command, and never surrendered to Babylon, but was taken captive, as God had said. However, Peter, gives us saving council, to “desire the sincere milk of the word,” and by desire, we can understand obedience is included. As we read, and accept and do, the easier portions of scripture, God will open our understanding to the even more difficult to understand passages, but if we as Zedekiah, reject what we do understand, even that will be taken from us. So, where are you? Have you accepted that you deserve judgment? Have you accepted Christ’s gift of forgiveness? Have you committed yourself to serve him, whatever the cost? If you answer “Yes” to these, what wonders you will see. But, if you answer “No,” what horrors you will experience. Always, your choice. Selah [Think on this.] Amen.
To God be the Glory
