Zeal Without Knowledge

Today's verse is 2 Samuel 21:2
And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

Here we see Saul, a man that did not know God, but seeking to please God without knowledge of him and his ways, doing those things that only put him in more trouble. Here we see Saul violating an oath, thinking that by doing so he would please his people, and maybe even the God of Israel. However, instead he, as all men are prone to do, Transgressed, and brought judgment down once again upon Israel. What can we learn from this? Zeal without knowledge will lead us into sin. We must know the one that took our place on the Cross. When we do this, and seek to follow him, trusting in his Word, he will guide us in all truth, and direct our steps that we might please him. Selah [Think about this.] Amen.
