To Blame, Or to Seek Help

Today's verse is I Samuel 30:6
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

Terrible news has come, and David’s men blamed David, because they needed someone to blame. But David remembered who was in charge, and who has everything in his hand, and who he could go to for help. Some like David’s men would blame whoever they could, including God, but David shows us the example we should follow. Instead of looking for someone to blame, David seeks God’s face, and asks God’s counsel, and in doing so, he not only recovers what was lost, but gains so much more. We can learn from this. If we in the face of sudden loss, should instead of finding someone to blame, look to the one who can help, we will discover that as we turn to the maker of the Heavens and the Earth that he will restore and make us whole. Amen.
