Today's verse is Jeremiah 38:21-22
But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
What would the people say? This is the reason that Zedekiah the king told Jeremiah is the reason he would not obey God, and save Jerusalem from utter destruction. So God promised Zedekiah what he feared for his disobedience. Zedekiah valued the opinion of others more than his own eternal destination. What of you? What would you exchange your soul for? Wealth? Fame? A Good time? But what did Jesus say? “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” So, will you Fear God, or the opinions of your friends, or even your enemies? Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. Amen.
