Understanding Judging

Today's verse is Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.

An often quoted, but rarely understood verse, but this year we have looked at two contrasting passages that, I think, give a good foundation for understanding it. Consider “Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.” And, “To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.” Following the second, we are reminded that we were as they, but now we have been changed by Jesus Christ, even as Christ desires to do for them. Consider the admonition we have in these two passages. We are not to hate those that have wallowed in their sin, but knowing what Jesus has done for us, warn them of the dangers of their way, hoping that as Christ has done for us, so too will he open their eyes, that they too might repent and find life in Jesus Christ. Amen.
