Today's verse is Matthew 12:36-37
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Does not James later expound upon this saying: “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” Do you guard your tongue? Are you careful with your words? Better yet, do you guard your heart, do you watch and take care of the things you think upon? As Paul admonishes, do you take every thought captive before the throne of Christ? So, let it be as David prayed: “Let the words of my mouth, / And the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, / O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” Amen.
