Following the Wrong Path

Today's verse is Judges 2:2-3
And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

A word of warning, and a sad truth, that we often bring our troubles upon ourselves. Israel failed to obey God in driving out the inhabitants of the land of Canaanites, but instead set them to tribute, thereby making a league with them; a thing God commanded them not to do. In the punishment we also see how Israel was subjected to what is today known as peer pressure; the desire we have to fit in, to not make waves, and to be accepted of those we live and work with, drawing us away from doing that which is right to follow after false gods. Let us therefore, beware of following down that same path, but seek to be accepted of God, rather than accepted by men, for anytime we wish to be accepted of any other than God, we will be snared by their fallen mores. For even the best of us, “come short of the glory of God.”

To God be the Glory
