Today's verse is Deuteronomy 32:51
Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.
In John’s first letter, as part of his farewell he warns: If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. I have been taught that as John was speaking to the redeemed, that this danger [committing a sin unto death] is one we must consider as followers of Jesus Christ. Some, believing that it is possible to lose that which Jesus Christ, and his Father keeps, postulate that this leads to the loss of our Hope provided by Christ. However, we have in Moses an example of this sin unto death. For Moses, because of his transgression in striking the Rock instead of just speaking to it, was forbidden for himself to enter into the Promise Land. Yet, Moses did not lose his Office, nor can we say that he has lost his place in the First Resurrection. There is much we can learn from Moses, King Saul, and even David on this matter, but for now let us remember the Words of David, But I have trusted in thy mercy; My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. Amen.
