Today's verse is 2 Corinthians 10:12
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Why should we not compare ourselves with our neighbor? Simple, because no matter how contemptible we might actually be, we can always find in our neighbor something worse, no matter how “good” we might otherwise judge them. Doing such a thing is to use false measures, which thing God hates, but we must use a true standard, which be none other than God’s Word: Jesus Christ. It is by his example that we shall be compared to, and found wanting, but it is also in him that we have redemption. For if we seek him, he will trade us our sin for his Righteousness, that if we be found in him and he in us, it is his Righteousness that God will see when we are before him. Give him something which is less than nothing, and receive everything in its place: What trade can be better than that? Amen.
