Today's verse is Judges 17:13
Then said Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.
I do not know whether or not Micah, or the Levite, for that matter, had read the scriptures that were at that time available to them. If they had read them, then this statement indicates that they did not understand it. First they ought to have known the commandment, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, and while the Levite has a responsibility for ministry, even of teaching the scripture, it is the sons of Aaron that are to fill the role of Priest, so in contradiction to his claim, the Lord would not be overtly blessing Micah. For in his sincerity, every thing he was doing was wrong. That is to say, Sin. What follows bears this out. So, what should we take from this? First, and foremost, if we are to please God, we must do so by his way, not by whatsoever we might imagine, for God does not reward sincerity, but obedience. So let us be obedient to the promise of forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and by that he will bring us into full obedience when he brings us home. Amen.
