The vile person shall be no more called liberal, Nor the churl said to be bountiful. For the vile person will speak villany, And his heart will work iniquity, To practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, To make empty the soul of the hungry, And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. The instruments also of the churl are evil: He deviseth wicked devices To destroy the poor with lying words, Even when the needy speaketh right.
And if any are speaking in defense of the righteous, they are not being heard. So I pray now, that God spares this nation, as Abraham requested, or that he do as he did with Lot, and delivers his people from the judgment descending upon this Nation. Amen.

Today’s Reading is Genesis 18:1-19:29, Matthew 13:1-43, Ecclesiastes 4:1-7
Monday’s Reading plan is Genesis 19:30-21:21, Matthew 13:44-14:36, Ecclesiastes 4:8-16

The verse you cite is poorly translated with KJV timeframe biases. The Hebrew translates Is 32:5 in Hebrew is more along the lines of "He/She/They who is foolish (or a foolish person) will be not be called willing to be noble." The context is that the righteous king and princes are a source of refreshment, safety, and enlightenment. While those who are unwise, rash, and foolish are not noble and are ungodly.
ReplyDeleteThat said, not only our country, but our world is broken and we see examples of both in the leadership of all parties. Those who are so-called "liberals, or Democrats" are no less dangerous than those who call themselves "conservatives, or Republicans." Both sides have examples of foolish self-righteousness, bigotry and lack of care for what is truly righteous. Judgment is coming to all. May we pray for our leaders and speak words of truth to them that the Holy Spirit may help them hear and turn before it is too late.
Thank you Don, for responding. I do not understand what you mean by ". . . with KJV timeframe biases." And I cannot said I am good with your proposed alternate translation, But I am perfectly fine with your interpretation.
DeleteBut allow me to defend one possible interpretation of "timeframe bias. The King James bible was published in 1611, at that time America was just beginning to be settled by England. As Such the words "vile," "churl" and "liberal" were chosen without bias as to how a certain 20 year old American in 1986 might interpret them. They had no frame of reference for how the American political structure might form. Also consider this, to my knowledge, this is the only place in the entire bible that the term "liberal" is used in a negative connotation. Now, more importantly, Isiah included a description of these vile people, which leave no question of whom he is speaking. And as Don has pointed out, the leadership of modern day Democrat Party are not the only ones guilty of listed sins.
As to whether it is too late? Consider how half of Matthew 24:7 has already been fulfilled, Will we see the other half in the near future? I hope not, but it is not hard to see famine coming, caused by recent events. Not to mention the turmoil described in the verses following, as they are the natural result of the rhetoric of those that currently in leadership.
