A Way Of Escape
Today's verse is 2 Samuel 24:3
And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
Just before this, we see David, being moved, as the text explains, by God that cause might be had to judge Israel. Yet, caution comes from an unlikely source, Joab. We are told in Psalms that one is blessed that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Yet, we see here that it is not the character of the person, but the context of the counsel, that we are to consider. Here, Joab gave godly counsel, were as in other places, without a doubt, his counsel had been ungodly. If David, had listened here, David, and thus Israel would have been saved from the trouble about to come upon them. So, whenever one gives you counsel, consider not the person that counsels, but the counsel given, and compare it with scripture, and if in agreement with it, take heed, for God is giving you an opportunity to escape his wrath to come. Selah [Think about this.] Amen.
