What Purpose Is Evil?
Today's verse is Deuteronomy 30:2-3
And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
It is not fashionable today to say, “This is a Judgment of God!” Yet God is not ashamed to say that he is the author of all the evil that we see. For what purpose does such evil come? Simply put, It comes for one of two reasons: First, it comes as a test to those that are faithful, to prove their faithfulness, but second, and none are innocent, it comes as judgment of our sin, of our rejection of God. God gives us good in our lives that we may know that we can trust him. The evil he sends that we might learn to fear him; for he is a consuming fire. So take heed to the passage above, and allow the evil to cause you to turn to the One you can trust, and if you will do this, as he here has promised he will lift you up and put you in an secure place. Amen.
