Reflecting Upon What God Has Already Done For You

Today's verse is Genesis 35:1
And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

As God commanded Jacob (Israel) to go back to Bethel to dwell, and worship God (make an altar), Jacob was reminded how God had met him there. He remembered the distress he was in. He had been sent away from home because his brother sought to kill him, and because the prospects for a wife were unacceptable where Issac and Rebecca lived. He had nothing but the clothes on his back and the staff in his hand. Yet he found that God, this God that his father knew, but he really had little to do with, sought him out, just as God has sought each and every one of us, and made him promises, if he would but serve him.  At this time, many of the promises that God had made Jacob had been fulfilled, and as Jacob testified here, God never forsook Jacob. So also will we find God faithful, and if we are honest that have received his Gift, though his Son, that he has been faithful to us as well. So today, reflect upon what God has done for you since he has sought you out, and rejoice and worship him, for as he has promised in his Word so shall he do. Amen.
