Proper Motivation For Giving

 

Today's verse is 2 Corinthians 8:5

And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

Some, when they give not because they love they Lord their God, but in an attempt to appease him, so that they can go about their own business having attempted, unsuccessfully, to clear their guilty conscience. But, here we see the proper motivation of giving, It is but an extension of one that has already fully given himself to the God that loves him, so he loves God in return. One who has done this holds nothing back, all that he has, is already counted as a resource for the purpose of fulfilling the purpose God has set for him. His focus is on God alone, and that which God has set before him, always remembering the God that gave his all, when he took his place upon the cross. Therefore all that he has, is God’s to use as God sees fit. Amen.
