When and How to Judge
Today's verse is Romans 14:4
Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Consider also: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: /And he delighteth in his way. /Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: /For the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.” How should we interpret, and put into practice such commands. For on the other side we have: “Open rebuke is better than secret love.” So how do we combine these principles? Consider this, only God can see the heart, so only God knows each of our motives. Sometimes even better than we ourselves do. So let us refrain from judging the motives of our brethren, but when such a brother transgresses a clear scriptural command, or principle, we rebuke that, and leave the motives to God. Amen.
