Today's verse is John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
We have here a contrast, If we are in Christ, therefore He is in us, we cannot help but to bear fruit. But if we are not and so do not as he would have us, whether by method or function, failure on our part is inevitable. What we should hope for, labor for, is as testified in I Chronicles: "And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him." What we know of Phinehas is not much, but we do know that he was the third High Priest of Israel, and that he acted on God's part during one of the plagues sent upon Israel during their wanderings in the wilderness. We can also look at King Saul, who for his zeal for the Lord, did nothing right, and displeased the God of Gods at every turn. Let us therefore, take heed, turn to our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and seek his will, by his means, and by his, not our, Power. Amen
