Delights and Foundations
Today's verse is Psalm 119:92
Unless thy law had been my delights,
I should then have perished in mine affliction.
This is something that I can testify to: that when I delighted in God' Word, God direction, and the path he has set before me, the afflictions that beset be are as nothing, but when I turn aside from these things they overwhelm and become unbearable. Paul says "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." It is in this foundation that we must rest. He then says: "Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;" So then we that have trusted Jesus Christ have a choice in what we use to build upon the foundation that God has provided for us; do we do it according to our own strength, by our own devises? If we do this, we will have nothing but the foundation, which is secure. But if we rest in our God, allow him to be our strength and allow his Spirit to work through us, all that is done will last, and we shall receive an eternal reward to present to our Lord. Amen.
