Today's verse is 2 Kings 17:19
Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
Have you heard of “Keeping up with the Jones’?” This is apparently what Judah had done, for it was not until the time Israel, their northern neighbour was removed for their transgressions, that the King of Judah finally removed the High Places from the land, for God had commanded by Moses, that only at the place He [God] had chosen should Israel (for they were not yet divided) go to worship. But they comparing themselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” For we are to judge ourselves not by our standards (or our neighbor's) but by God’s, that is we are to compare ourselves to God’s Word, to God’s standard, that we might find ourselves in need of the Saviour, who took our place on the Cross that we might live through him that died for us. Amen.
