Today's verse is 1 Kings 18:44
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
At the beginning of this narrative, Elijah is told to shew himself to Ahab, that it may rain. Now, take note of the two prayers that Elijah prayed. The first was very straightforward and short, and even though Elijah did everything he could to make the request impossible, it was answered quickly, leaving no doubt. Yet, this second prayer, the answer was not immediate, but Elijah persisted until he was given evidence, however small, that his request had been heard, even though as we were told at the beginning, that this result was the very purpose for which he faced Ahab. Therefore, be patient when you pray, but pray till you see the beginning of God’s answer. Amen.
