Today's verse is Psalm 47:2
For the LORD most high is terrible;
He is a great King over all the earth.
Years ago, on the show “House,” I saw House speaking to a young Christian Lady (One of his patients) and accuse her God of being terrible. Even then I knew the answer, but this stuck with me. Today, as then, we focus on the Goodness of God, but we forget that he is also Terrible, and when we encounter that Word, we often downplay it. But God is worthy of the word, so let us embrace it and fear. Does not the fear of the Lord lead both to knowledge and wisdom? I know that I found it a comfort even, when other fears beset me roundabout. So do not question the goodness of God, nor his power, but remember also that it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. If you doubt any of this, just consider the Cross, really consider it, and you will see all these things. Selah [Think carefully on these things.] Amen.
To God be the Glory
Scott
Today’s reading is 1 Kings 13-14, 2 Chronicles 12, Psalm 4, Titus 2
Tomorrow’s reading will be: 1 Kings 15, 2 Chronicles 13-14, Titus 3

In rereading this, I saw that I had misquoted Hebrews 10:31 It is a Fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. So, allow me to follow up with Moses' testimony found in Hebrews 12:21 "And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake[.]" Adding also the applicable definition of terrible: that which causes terror. With the above correction I otherwise stand by what I wrote.
